Nothing feels better than giving your feet a break after a long day. Soaking feet in Epsom salts has many health benefits and may just be exactly what you need to indulge in self care.
Epsom salt is made of magnesium sulfate. When absorbed through the skin, magnesium sulfate draws toxins out of the body, sedates the nervous system, reduces swelling and relaxes muscles. Can you say, major benefits?!
In addition to soothing sore and achy feet, Epsom salt can reduce foot inflammation, remove foot odors and soften rough skin on your feet. In fact, if you are having trouble removing a splinter from your foot, an Epsom salt foot soak can be effective in drawing it out.
How to Soak Your Feet in Epsom Salts...
Step 1 Fill a large, wide basin with hot water. The water temperature should be as hot as you can comfortably tolerate. Filling the basin with warm water then gradually adding hot water can help you secure a water temperature you are comfortable with. Placing the basin on a towel can help absorb any water spills or splatters.
Step 2 Add a half cup of Epsom salt to the water basin. Stir it around with your hands or feet so the salt dissolves. Step 3 Pull up a chair. Sitting in a chair while you soak your feet may be most comfortable. Having a towel next to the chair will be handy to dry your feet once you are done soaking.
Step 4 Emerge your feet. Place your feet into the basin and soak your feet until the water cools or as long as you feel comfortable. Adding hot water to the basin during your foot soak can help maintain the temperature.
Step 5 Dry your feet. Once you are finished soaking your feet, dry them well. Massage your feet gently using your favorite moisturizing lotion and put cotton socks on to keep the moisture in. Now, your feet should feel brand new and you can feel good about taking a little time for some self care.
