Vegas obviously has its appeal for adults, but it also makes for a super fun vacation with the kids! Back when I was young, Circus Circus was the only kid oriented place to go, boy have things changed.
Here are 10 Must See Places to Go with Kids, in no particular order. Be sure to check for openings and ticket sales way in advance. Due to the pandemic, there are limited ticket sales and some shows and attractions have not reopened. Do your research ahead of time.
1. Shark Reef Aquarium at Mandalay Bay
Kids will love the sharks and beautiful ocean creatures at this aquarium. You also get to walk through a tunnel where sharks swim below you and above you. I really don’t need to say anything else except sharks + kids = a big YES.
2. Siegfried & Roy’s Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat at The Mirage
This was like being at a small SeaWorld – you can stand along the side and watch the dolphins jump and swim. The kids (and adults) adored this because I mean, who doesn’t love dolphins? And then after you’ve taken a zillion pictures you walk a few feet and see gorgeous tigers and lions. Have you ever actually seen them awake because I don’t think I have.. but I digress. Everyone will love these amazing creatures that will make the kids go WOW.
3. AdventureDome Theme Park at Circus Circus
This is America’s largest indoor theme park (who knew?!). If you and your kids are looking for some excitement, you must try the crazy fast roller coaster called El Loco. You may lose your voice from screaming, but if you have the ‘need for speed’ – you aren’t going to want to miss this. The best value is to take advantage of the unlimited ride package. It's worth it!
4. Roller Coaster at New York-New York
If you survived El Loco, then it’s time to go on a 180-degree twist and dive maneuver in this incredible roller coaster full of twists and loops and negative Gs.
5. The Buffet at Excalibur
You can’t go to Las Vegas without hitting at least one buffet. And let me tell you, The Buffet doesn’t disappoint. It’s new and it’s open spacious design is a real treat. But the best part (and the kids will agree) is the interactive dessert station. The crepes are made to order and absolutely incredible.
6. The Pantry at The Mirage
If you want a restaurant meal that isn’t a buffet, then you must visit the Pantry. It’s open 24 hours a day but is anything but a diner. They serve breakfast all day – I’d highly recommend their Greek yogurt parfait and egg-white omelets – but they also have soups, salads and sandwiches. Impeccable service and delicious fresh food.
7. BLVD Creamery at Monte Carlo
All I can say about this place is YUM. BLVD is a contemporary ice cream shop with unique flavors, sundaes, huge waffle cones, floats, ice cream sandwiches and more. This is such a treat and your kids will literally jump up and down and scream “ICE CREAM!” 8. Tournament of Kings at Excalibur
This is an interactive dinner show that kids and adults will enjoy. It’s a live production of a King Arthur tale where you sit in an arena and eat with your hands (unless you get the vegetarian option where they give you a fork). The audience is encouraged to be rowdy so get ready to clap and yell while being entertained by knights, horses and battles.
9. Hiking in Red Rock Canyon
When you need a break from the strip, head about 20 minutes out of town to Red Rock Canyon to go hiking and rock climbing. Stop by the extremely informative visitor center and then drive around the 13 mile loop where you can stop at a multitude of different trails with varying degree of difficulty. It’s breathtaking. Do not forget your camera.
10. See a Show
You must see a show when you are in Vegas. There are many family-friendly options including Mystere – an incredible Cirque Du Soleil show, Blue Man Group, Zarkana or the Beatles LOVE (just to name a few).
As you can see, there are a plethora of activities to enjoy with your kids in Las Vegas. The key is to plan ahead, take your time when walking on the strip or having to wait in line to eat or to see a show. Have your camera ready so that you can capture the memories of the moment. Happy trails!
